Volunteer for the service

Happy at Home gives the opportunity for an elderly person to socialise in a supportive environment and create new memories and share old ones.

We recruit, support and train volunteer befrienders to visit or phone an elderly person who feels lonely. Developing this friendship, builds up confidence and well-being, helping them to stay in their own home and feel less lonely. Also enabling them to access information and services they would otherwise find difficult to reach.

Our project is now running in Northampton having been successful in Daventry District and South Northants.

To be eligible for the project, referrals are considered for anyone aged 60 and over and who lives within Northampton.

The project cannot run without volunteers to befriend the above, so if you have an hour a week available you could make a huge difference in someone’s life.

Volunteers will also experience increased confidence, build on their skills and well-being and will feel more involved within their local community.  You would be DBS checked (home visitors) and over 18 for the befriender role.

Hear from one of our volunteers for the Happy at Home service Janice. She chats with two of our service users on a regular basis, providing regular conversation for both of them.
