Neighbourhood health
The Government has placed a Neighbourhood Health Service at the heart of its vision for the NHS, aiming to help people to live well in their local areas and reduce their need for care delivered in hospitals.
Neighbourhood health commits to shifting resources into community-based services and delivering care closer to home.
It builds upon the current NHS Long Term Plan, which essentially champions a left shift to health prevention.
Across the health and care system, from leaders to local teams, there is lots of enthusiasm for the idea of working differently at Neighbourhood level to improve health and care. However, the concept of Neighbourhood Health encapsulates many different ideas and approaches to delivering health and care services. It also means different things to different people and in different contexts.
Within West Northamptonshire, the approach to Neighbourhood Health is being formed.
Voluntary Impact Northamptonshire and South Northants Volunteer Bureau (collectively known as SAWN or Social Action West Northamptonshire) are attempting to influence the Neighbourhood Health debate, and particularly around how the VCFSE can influence service provision and delivery.
SAWN will be facilitating a workshop on Neighbourhood Health in February of 2027 at the Kings Park Conference Centre in Northampton. This is open to all VCFSE organisations that operate within West Northamptonshire.
Spaces are limited to 80 and can be booked here: Neighbourhood Health Workshop 25th February 2027 | Voluntary Impact Northampton
