Happy at Home

This service has been running in Northampton since 2018 and is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. We help lonely people to reconnect with their local community, make friends, have fun, and access support.

Befriending in the community

We help the housebound connect through a volunteer befriender who can offer a regular visit or a telephone call for cheerful conversation and sharing life stories. All our volunteers have provided references and our home visiting volunteers are also DBS checked.

What’s going on where you live?

Make friends and access local support. Would you like to know more about regular activities that you could join in within your local community?

Time for Tea events

If you are able to get out but feel a little unsure of going on your own then these events can help. A warm welcome at one of our Time for Tea events held around Northampton. This is a chance to meet up with other people in your local community and have a chat over a nice cup of tea or coffee.

One of our volunteers who will have introduced themselves to you will be there to make you feel extra welcome, and if your transport is an issue we can cover that too.

Silver Stories

Would you like a child to read to you? Happy at Home has teamed up with Silver Stories. Children in schools across the town are phoning our residents to read to them (this is a supervised activity).  All they ask in return is for you to encourage them in their reading.

Volunteer Befrienders

Can you offer an hour a week to befriend a lonely person in your locality?  Do you enjoy talking to people, getting to know them and their life stories? We would love to welcome you to our volunteer community.

Volunteer Meet and Greeter

We are looking for warm, friendly, and welcoming volunteers who can facilitate our ‘Time for Tea’ social groups on a weekly basis.  If you enjoy sitting down with a cuppa and chatting with people in a cosy setting, if you can make people feel welcome and can introduce them to each other and hopefully encourage them to come again, then this role is for you.  This will take up to two hours of your time a week and will take place at a café near you.
